Fourth Sunday in Advent

December 22, 2008

Four days to Christmas – Scurrying around buying presents – Flying to distant places – crowded airports ------ and highways A time of joy and a time of sadness --------- Joy for those who can buy all those presents And sadness for those who can not ---- maybe not even enough to eat Is that the real meaning of Christmas – NO! Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus Jesus who was sent by God to die on the cross for our sins Christmas is the time we should show our gratitude and love For the gift God gave us – the gift of life everlasting in spite of ourselves.

Advent, 2008

December 14, 2008

My dearest family in God,

It is Advent Season once again.  Once more, the scriptures teach us and the readings for the season point us towards the coming of our Lord and Savior, Jesus the Annointed One.  This message means the world to us, as disciples of Christ Jesus.  We can do no less that proclaim Jesus Christ, born of Mary,  suffered for all and rose to a new Life in the Spirit!  Yet, we must admit, that this can at times be mere words.  As Sts. Francis and Clare called us, we are to bring the message of the Gospel out of the obscurity of mere verbiage and transform those wonderful words of the Advent into works of mercy, compassion, peace and prayer.  How will you live-out the the message of Advent  in your life, home, job and ministry this year?  Others have demonstrated the compaasionate coming of Jesus Christ over the years...Martin Luther, John & Charles Wesley, Mother Theresa, and so many others.  How does the gospel of Christ's advent lead us to the conviction that Christ will be born anew, this year, from within our ministries?  Pray and see.

May Christmas, this year, give birth to Christ...

Solemn Profession

December 3, 2008

Our beloved Claudia Windal, OSF, D.Min., has taken the step to journey even deeper into her loving relationship with God.  On Sunday, November 30, the Feast of All Franciscan Saints, she made her Perpetual Vows within the Order of Servant Franciscans.  The Sisters of Saint Francis, especially Sister Theresa, OSF, were of immense help and blessing in this most solemn of occasions!

Our God of Infinite Love and Mercy smiles at the steps we take to deepen our love of God and all peoples, especially through our Franciscan charism!

A Message from Bishop +Riah...

November 4, 2008

In a recent post from the Anglican/Episcopal Bishop,  +Riah H. Abu El- Assal, he stated:

"My presentation focused on the need to bring about a global united front of good people, faithful to the call of God, so that an era of peace may dawn upon our globe at large. For stereotypes and myths to be dispelled, we need a greater interfaith dialogue and encounters to do away with ignorance about who the other is; and reach a point of true recognition of the ‘otherness in that other,’ irrespective of his or her color, gender, racial background or national affiliation."

St. Francis - for everyone!

October 26, 2008

I am not certain that "Favorite" describes the Saint whose way of life I follow. That saint is Francis of Assisi, after whom countless communities of religious and secular followers exist yet today. While in grade school, I first read about St. Francis and his relationship with the animals. Those stories were close to my heart because I embraced absolutely any and every animal who would allow me to hold it, speak to it, sing with it, and befriend it. Francis opened my young eyes to the beauty of God in the world around me. As my love of animals grew, so did my love of God and my admiration for St. Francis. As a sophomore in high school, I became a member of the Third Order Secular of St. Francis. There, I met others who found themselves in deeper relationship with God through the prayers and teachings of St. Francis. We met monthly at a county hospital in a suburb of Chicago. Our meetings and ministry of visiting the sick in that hospital were shared with four or five Franciscan Sisters and three Franciscan Friars (priests). As I realized that I was being called to Religious Life, I spoke...
